BMW has unveiled yesterday the flagship version of the new Z4 – the BMW Z4 sDrive35is – together with the BMW Z4 M Sport package. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is is powered by the standard 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine that has received an extra 34hp for a total of 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque with the overboost function. With the extra power, the BMW Z4 sDrive35is reaches 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. In optimum conditions, the fuel consumption of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is on the highway reaches 31.4 mpg and the CO2 emissions level is 210 g/km. The BMW Z4 sDrive35is price for the British market starts at 43,885 GBP.
The BMW Z4 M Sport package can now be fitted on any of the versions and includes a new
aerodynamic body, 18 inch rims, Sport seats and various accents and M badges. The BMW Z4 M Sport price will be announced in March next year when it will go on sale.
A new version of the Z4 roadster is getting ready to hit the streets, as the German carmaker released today details of the sDrive35is, a car which comes with serious enhancements, including a revised straight six cylinder engine with Twin Turbo Technology, High Precision Injection and the all mighty M Sports Package, complete with M Suspension.
The new roadster, which is scheduled to make its official entry at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, will take point in the Z4 range and comes, as said, with a twin-turbo straight-six power unit, delivering 340 hp at 5,8000 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm.
Paired with a seven-speed Sport Automatic transmission with double clutch operation, the engine makes the Z4 accelerate from naught to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, while topping at an electronically limited speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
The most exciting features on the new Z4, however, are the M Sport Package and the M Suspension, both of which are offered as standard on the sDrive35is.
The M Sport includes the M Aerodynamics Package (new front bumper with a horizontal trim bar in the outer air intakes finished in matt aluminum, rear bumper with specially accentuated surrounds on the exhaust tailpipes), as well as some interior upgrades, like the M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles, M footrest and sports seats, grey faces for the instrument cluster, M entry strips, foot-mats with colored piping and the “sDrive35is” model designation, as well as M interior trim in aluminum carbon.
Back to the exterior, the car will be offered in six paintwork colors: Alpine White, Titanium Silver, Sapphire Black, Space Grey, Deep Sea Blue and Melbourne Red metallic.
Adaptive M Sport suspension is standard for the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, giving a 10mm lower ride height than the standard Z4 and comes with variable damper control for enhanced ride characteristics. However, the most distinctive feature to the casual observer will be the new Z4’s bespoke M aerodynamic body styling package. A revised front spoiler configuration with contrasting matt aluminum trim in the side air intakes, gives a more aggressive look to the car. This aggression flows to the side of the vehicle where specially designed18-inch light alloy wheels come as standard. At the rear a dual section diffuser with an Anthracite insert differentiates the car from standard Z4s.
Inside, Sport seats, door sill finishers with M designation, Anthracite headlining, Aluminum carbon interior trim and an M Sport multi-function leather steering wheel with shift paddles complete the package.
The BMW Z4 sDrive35is costs £43,885 OTR (based on March 2010, 17.5 per cent VAT).
M Sport specification for the BMW Z4
The launch of the flagship Z4 coincides with the introduction of the M Sport models. Customers can now choose to have any Z4 engine paired with the M aerodynamic body styling,18-inch M light alloy wheels, Anthracite head lining, M leather gearknob and M designation door sills. For added support Sport seats, featuring part electric adjustment, are also fitted, whilst all Z4 M Sport models come with leather upholstery as standard.
M Sport specification is available on all models within the BMW Z4 range. It will go on sale from March, 2010 and pricing will be confirmed in the new year.
